fastest ways to setup ebay selling ops

talk to me about how to set up fast ebay selling ops for coins and pms. what is the way to not spend too much time on this. I cant be dicking around taking pics of crap all day and doing data entry. I got a reliable somebody I can put to work checking email, data entry, shipping, and all that crap, for at least an hour a day. what needs to be considered. minimum time spent on my part.

Re: fastest ways to setup ebay selling ops

Just put together some "stock ads", generic in nature for the individual kinds of coins you are planning on selling, if you are talking bullion items. Then once you list one of them, it's a very simple matter of just "relisting" once the auction has ran it's course. Very little time involved.

If you plan on selling specific individual numismatic items, individual photos will almost be a necessity if you plan on getting any decent bids.

No matter what kind of eBay operation you plan, it is going to take some time to set up and keep tabs on. Otherwise, don't expect much. Bullion already sells at pretty tight spreads. Combine that with the idiotic fees charged by eBay, and it's difficult to make enough to be worth the trouble on generic bullion items. On bullion, you'll basically be working for eBay, making them money, or even paying them money out of your own pocket in some cases where the bids don't cover the costs and fees combined.

Just like anything worthwhile.....it'll take a little time.
Also, things will be slow going until you get a few feedbacks.

You sound almost disgusted asking your question...."dicking around", "minimum time spent"...dude, if your so busy with other stuff, why waste your precious time?

Have fun with it....if you're in it just to make a quick killing, or something like that...don't bother. Sometimes I get the feeling that people think E-bay is so damn easy. Well, it's not. If it were, absolutely everyone would do it. There is actually quite alot involved with doing it sucessfully.

You shall receive as by what you invest.

Selling on eBay is not a point-click-leave situation. I personally photograph each item, as I can't stand when a "stock" photo is used for anything that it is not brand-new, mass-produced.

I recently listed about 125 items (rocks & minerals), and it took me around 10 hours of work including taking photos, editing them, and listing the items. Three hours more for packaging and shipping. Worked out to be around $30 an hour net for my work after eBay & PayPal fees. :-)

If you don't have the time to invest, there are eBay "trading assistants" and store-front operations around the country that will do everything to sell it for you...of course, with a large chunk of the profit.

for most cases when you factor in the time spent, ebay fees, paypal fees, shipping fees, people complaining, chargebacks, bounced checks, non payments, bad feedbacks....it pays to sell to golddealer.com instead

consider this a feasibility study. I am asking people who have done this about the topic for the precise reason that I am comparatively ignorant about it and before I spend my time I want to figger out what I might expect

ja, I have fun buying. selling to me I think would be a way of pruning stuff I've got but now I dont want. plus, there is always the chance of finding a niche, a very small one, a very small niche that can be filled with small effort for small gains, but is enough of a return to make it worthwhile.

you could say that about a lot of occupations.

I first sold crap on ebay via one of these franchises, Isoldit, and they gobbled up almost 50% of the stuff I gave them to get rid of and wouldnt take small stuff. they are not suitable for anything along the PM or coin lines that is for sure. the other ones, I have found out about, I checked into locals and most of them are talking %15. again I think this is too much. I found one guy in classifieds somewhere saying he would do ebay of coin items for 5%. what do you think about that?

you should check into teletrade.com and have them auction coins for you...i think their commission is reasonable and they have the clientele you're looking for.

Here is some info I archived from a post a year or so ago. Hope it helps. It compared an ad a person here had going for some bullion and the poster suggested the money saving ideas. See info below:

End your auctions at around 10-11:00 PM ESDT, Sell on a Saturday or Sunday, that is when the most people can see it, and they are awake all across the USA.

Second, you are selling a COMMODITY, not a coach bag. Why start bidding at $50? Start at $.99 and let the market dictate price. Also, most people don't take Paypal on commodities because of the fees involved. Say you sell it at $70 and your buyer pays by paypal. Here are your fees:

Listing fee ($49.99) $1.20
Border fee $3.00
Supersize picture $ .75
Gallery/Subtitle pack $ .65
Final Value Fee $2.66
Paypal Fee $2.33

Total Fees $10.59

Net Sale: $59.41

Here is what you should do:

Listing Fee (.99) $.20
Border Fee (NO!) $.00
Supersize picture (NO!) $.00
Gallery/Subtitle Pack $.65
Final Value Fee $2.66
Paypal Fee (NO!) $.00

Total Fees: $5.31

Net Sale $64.69

If you are gonna sell and make a profit, what do you intend to buy? That is the most important question. If you convert to FRN's you need to target your next investment when you sell.

Lastly, ship Priority mail for $4.55 with delivery confirmation nationwide and it will get there in 2 days.

more good information, thanks, this is what I call learning from other peoples mistakes.

but let me ask you about this paypal thing. what is the percentage of buyers who will only use paypal>? I am chary and will only use paypal with ebayers because I dont want to get shafted; doesnt paypal allow you to drag the money back if they fail to deliver? do you think there are many people like me out there who will only buy from unkowns using ebay, or not?

I agree with most of this, but people will generally spend more if you accept PayPal. PayPal basically sucks, but it will help you get top dollar. Also if you want to get good money you need to take good photos, not stock photos, etc.

If you do take PayPal, 95% of people will pay that way. And you as a seller need to make sure that you follow PayPal's rules. Only ship to the confirmed address, and make sure you use something that is trackable otherwise you risk chargebacks.
